So I heard there was an earthquake in LA. I don’t have cable, so CNN was out of the question, so I figured, it’s LA, all the stations should have web streams. Well, I checked KCBS2/KCAL9, KNBC4, KTLA5, KABC7 & KTTV11/KCOP13 and ALL have web streams. But, as I found out, not all of them will play in FF3.
2/9: Stream wouldn’t launch in either browser
4: Stream worked in FF3, but only after I disabled ad-block
5: Stream launched, sort of, with FF3. I got audio after clicking the “Firefox users click here”, but couldn’t get video until I opened it in IE tab. Hey, at least they’re trying to support FF3.
7: “This stream requires Internet Explorer.” Lame.
11/13: Launched with NO effort on my part other than clicking the link.

…and please keep polluting the Earth because the oil industry overlords tell me it’s right to do so. Rep. Ted Poe (R-TX) in his own words.
CFL bulbs have pluses and minuses just like everything else, but consider this:
1. The mercury in them, while harmful, is LESS than the mercury in the old mercury thermometers everyone used to use.
2. Yes.. Disposal of them sucks. But in Wisconsin, any store that sells them is REQUIRED to take them back and dispose of them.
3. I use them and have never had to turn off my lights just to watch Monday Night Football, or for that matter, talk on the N3IVK repeater.
4. “This light bulb is made in China.” I don’t have a regular light bulb, but I’m pretty sure our regular bulbs are made in China. Hell, look around your house/apartment/shack… Most of it is made in China.
5. “America took care of Americans by developing their own natural resources, like coal, natural gas, and crude oil to provide affordable energy to Americans” Hmm… a bunch of NON-RENEWABLE resources that are running dry and/or pollute the air. Doesn’t surprise me that the representative from Texas mentioned all of the above. Probably is being paid for by the oil/natural gas lobby.
Honestly, aside from the mercury in these, they’re much better light bulbs than the incandescent ones. Oh and I’ve never had a photograph on my wall fade because of a CFL. Sunlight yes, but not a CFL.
